I can't understand why I woke up at 04:46 this morning, unable to get back to sleep.
I got a rotten sleep the night before and I spent nearly an hour at the gym yesterday. Surely, it then follows that I should have been exhausted after that, but it seems that I'm somehow going to have to get through today having had five hours' sleep instead of the seven on which I planned.
Among other things, your brain produces a chemical called hemopressin that acts as an appetite suppressant but the shorter you sleep, the less it produces and the more you want to eat. I'm trying to lose weight and this is not helping.
Is this still active?

Hi! I'm new to this community. It's 1.55am here in the UK. I have just watched a lengthy programme about quantum theory, then I read up on all the bits I didn't understand. When I say "read up on," I mean looked on Wikipedia. This probably means I am vastly more misinformed about atoms than I was before tonight began. I haven't studied Physics since school. I hated it. All this complex information should have made me sleepy. I'm sure I used to sleep frequently during all science lessons in school. My Physics = Sleep theory failed. I think I shall resort to watching House and taking codeine.
Does anyone have any interesting sleep-related icons? There must be some insomniac icon makers amongst you.
So I'm just going to post here... and no, this isn't a whining post!
Just something I've noticed lately. For the past few days I've been able to indulge in my night owl like ways. However, no matter how tired I am I wake up after only 5 or 6 hours of sleep. I am totally unable to fall asleep again, and am not even able to take a nap. At first I'm very energized but as the day goes on I find myself without energy, but also unable to sleep.
Today marked a more extreme way in that I woke up 4 or 5 times between 6 and 6:30 am... Not very much fun that.
Anyone else ever have this happen?
Oh well, being up so late isn't that bad, I just got a new SLR camera and once I get a tripod I'll be able to take some nice night time photos!
